Steve March Tormé Extraordinary jazz singer Steve March Tormé will headline the Amelia Island Jazz Festival on Friday, October 8, with a special program, Tormé Sings Tormé, in honor of his legendary father, Mel, at the First Baptist Church Auditorium. A veteran performer with numerous accolades and sold out shows to his credit, Steve March Tormé will be backed by the Dynamic Les DeMerle Big Band for an exciting musical evening of jazz featuring arrangements by his father and Marty Paich plus never before seen photos and video clips. A stylish, intelligent singer whose voice echoes the smooth quality of his Dad’s work, March Tormé recorded the first of many critically acclaimed albums in the late 1970s and has since become an in-demand artists at top venues worldwide. His latest CD, Inside/Out, features all new, original songs written entirely by him. The Dynamic Les DeMerle Jazz All Stars, along with some very special guests, are set to swing in a variety of jazz styles for its preview of the 2010 Les DeMerle Amelia Island Jazz Festival, Thursday, July 22, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, at the New Amelia Community Theatre, 209 Cedar Street, in Fernandina Beach. The event, which will benefit the educational programs and concerts of the festival, will present a crack seven piece jazz ensemble led by DeMerle on drums and will feature some of the country’s finest musicians, including multi-instrumentalist Dr. Bill Prince, formerly with, among others, Buddy Rich and Clark Terry, sizzling trumpeter Willie Hammett, University of North Florida music professor Marc Dickman on trombone, the always exciting and versatile pianist Doug Matthews, superb bassist Ernie Ealum, a sideman with Arturo Sandoval, and the very tuneful vocalist, Bonnie Eisele. Special guests for the show include music educators Johnnie Robinson, band director at Fernandina Beach High School and Middle School, Andy Shepard from Yulee Middle School, and Renee Crane of the Amelia Island Montessori School. Additionally, five-year-old violin prodigy Eden Rewa will sit in with the pros. |
